As you read in last weeks post I won something pretty neat.

Monitors. I won monitors from IK Multimedia and Garageband & Beyond. Well, they came in the mail and I did an unboxing video. Which is right here. (LINK)

The monitors were heavier than I expected. I guess I was prejudging them by their size. They are small so I figured they would be about the weight of a standard computer speaker you would get at a big box store or these at Amazon. (LINK)

Ok are these the best in the world?

No, but for the price point they are at I would most definitely say they are as good or slightly better than some of their competitors of the same price. At least the competitors I’ve been exposed to. I have not tuned them to the room they will be in or the system which they will be apart of yet, but for sitting in front of my Mac editing video and the soundtrack of the video with I think they’re great. I can’t wait to get them tuned to the room and see what they’re like then.

Unboxing & We Hit the Road

Unboxing Solar Panels & Our plans for the next week.

Saturday, our solar panels arrived in the mail. They are two 100 watt panels and they’re beautiful. I am excited to put them into service for us and see the sunlight turn into energy. It feels great to start a journey into this beautiful renewable future.

Elissa and I are also announcing that we are going on our first biggie journey in ‘Woody’ the Van. Now, we aren’t going to be telling you where we are going specifically till after we’re there. Suffice it to say we will be traveling throughout the state of Minnesota and Wisconsin. The van has an appointment with the van Dr. we hope everything goes well and we are given the all clear to go on our probably 1000 mile journey.

New Studio Headphones

     Well, this week I had a great video to go along with this blog entry, but alas the techno gremlins decided it wasn't to be. I had every kind of problem imaginable and always just when I thought I was in the clear and the video was about to be done. Something else would happen.
Oh well, so on to the matter at hand.

     They come in a nice box, and are affordable. For $79 bucks you can have them. Now of course as with anything the more you pay the better they get, but these are pretty darn good.

     Closed back and over the ear you won't get any track bleed with these on. Not to mention they come with a replaceable chord one curly and one straight.

     One thing I noticed after I bought them was that they paid attention to getting it to me. Now, I realize that every company you buy from gets you it's product, but when I bought it I didn't have a choice as to how fast it got it. Said a different way one shipping price fits all. They sent it to me in 2-3 three days, and every time it went through another step in the shipping I got an automated email telling me about it.  To me it didn't feel like spamming. It felt like attention to detail.

     The company has three options the HD-1 for $49 dollars, the HD-2 for $99 and the SM-CB-1 for $79 dollars. I got the SM-CB-1 because it has a closed back and to my ears that works better for what I'm going to be using them for.

   Another thing I really like about these is the company doesn't put it's logo everywhere. I hate being a walking commercial. Right on their website they say, 'No logos. No celebrities. Just sound." I kinda like that. 

    They are made in China, and that sort of sucks. I guess I didn't think about that before I bought them or I wouldn't have given them a chance. I would rather buy American. Having said that I also have to say that for the price you could do a lot worse. These should last me a very long time, and they are super quiet. A perfect or near perfect balance of sound. 

     Now if you are looking for general walk around town phones these aren't the ones for you. Those types of headphones are tonally colored these are not. A good set of studio headphones will put you in a neutral place because you are 'coloring' the sound via your DAW. If they are already doing that then your mix will be off. These are studio phones and don't color the tone before it gets to your ear.
